During the #16Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, and every day, UNHCR supports the empowerment of refugee women. On this occasion, UNHCR Cyprus met with two inspiring refugee women from Afghanistan. Shamsia excels in academics and athletics, while Belqis is skilled in geographical information systems. They became best friends at the Kofinou Reception Centre in Cyprus, where they received counseling and integration support from UNHCR. Now, they aim to further their education, find meaningful work, and build a stable future, showcasing the resilience and potential of refugee women when given the opportunity to thrive.
