Did the Syrian Civil War Lead to Major Immigration to the U.S.?
The Syrian immigrant population in the U.S. has several striking features.
🪪 Despite the fact that most came to the U.S. since 2010, Syrian immigrants are much more likely than the overall immigrant population to be U.S. citizens.
🟩 As a result of Syria’s civil war, these immigrants are also more likely to have obtained a green card after arriving as a refugee or through seeking asylum.
🌴 More than 1/4 of Syrian immigrants live in California, with sizable numbers especially in Southern California.
