Heat Health, Air Quality & Heat Early Warning Systems #DAC2026
This is a recording from the DHIS2 Annual Conference 2026. Extreme heat, air pollution and air quality present enormous health risks to populations around the world. Yet, the use of temperature, air pollution, air quality and environmental data alongside routine health data remains limited in practice.
In this session, we examine the intersection of heat and air quality data as part of comprehensive early warning systems being implemented in countries like Sri Lanka and Indonesia. We explore the opportunities for developing ""smart"" heat health early warning systems with DHIS2, including how these systems can support health administrators to activate localized prevention practices, reach at-risk individuals like pregnant women, caregivers and the elderly with targeted messaging, and improve health sector readiness and response to extreme heat events.
*Note: this parallel session is also a part of the DHIS2 Climate Health Academy program.
