The war took everything, but it never took away their passion.

The war took everything, but it never took away their passion.

When war forced Sudanese lawyers Amira, Amni and Mohamed to flee Sudan, they did not know if they would ever practise law again. Many lost colleagues, livelihoods and the professional identities they had spent years building. After arriving in Chad, they faced an uncertain future. Through the UNHCR–Mastercard Foundation partnership, Sudanese lawyers in Chad have been able to accredit their legal qualifications, train in Chadian law and regain the ability to practise their profession. Today, they are using their skills to support refugee communities, promote access to justice and defend the rights of others displaced by war. UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, protects people forced to flee war, violence and persecution. In Chad, UNHCR and its partners are supporting refugees who have fled violence in Sudan, helping them rebuild their lives, regain opportunities and contribute to their communities.
