KohTao...Lighter Today, Lighter Tomorrow

Systematic waste management starts with collaboration. Over the past few years, Koh Tao has faced growing waste management challenges driven by tourism and economic growth. Addressing these challenges requires collective action from all sectors. WWF Thailand has been working with government agencies, local authorities, tourism businesses, civil society, and local communities to develop a waste management system tailored to the island's needs by: ♻️ Reducing waste generation ♻️ Promoting waste segregation at source ♻️ Minimising waste sent to landfill ♻️ Establishing a waste management system suited to the local context ♻️ Building knowledge and scaling up good practices across communities A key focus has also been on unlocking the value of low-value waste—materials often overlooked in conventional waste systems. By strengthening source segregation and developing collection pathways, the project helps ensure that every type of waste has the opportunity to enter the appropriate recycling or recovery process, rather than ending up in the environment. Because sustainable waste management is not just about disposing of waste—it's about creating a circular system where resources are kept in use, made possible through the collective efforts of everyone. 🌏💚 #KohTao #NoPlasticinNature #BeatPlasticPollution #GIZ #WWFThailand #WWF #TogetherPossible
