Reaching the most remote communities is never easy – but it is essential. After two other attempts failed due to access denials, an #UNMISS peacekeeping patrol finally made it to the gold-mining area of Khor Kaltan in Central Equatoria, #SouthSudan, which was the scene of recent violence that led to many deaths and displacement. The journey was tough as the team travelled for hours through rough terrain, navigating deep muddy tracks and river crossings amidst heavy rain. Protected by peacekeepers from #Nepal, they were able to witness the impact of the insecurity, including abandoned civilian settlements.
