New SRSG calls for cessation of hostilities at first press conference
At her first press conference as Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of #UNMISS, Anita Kiki Gbeho delivered a blunt message to the country's political leaders to "stop the conflict and come to the table for inclusive dialogue". Highlighting the immense impact of persistent violence on civilians, she called on the Government to meet its primary responsibility to provide a safe environment for its people and secure sustainable peace. "Ultimately, lasting progress will depend on the willingness of the parties to engage in inclusive dialogue and reach political compromise and their belief in a vision of a peaceful, stable and prosperous #SouthSudan where no one is left behind,” she told media at the event in Juba.
