Just like Layla and Ahmed, Mariam is originally from Khartoum. When the war broke out, she first sought refuge with relatives in Kassala. Later, her medical rotation brought her further east to Port Sudan, where her expertise as a doctor is urgently needed.🏥 Leaving her family behind in Kassala was incredibly difficult, she says. Many qualified doctors have already fled Sudan during the conflict, but when asked if she plans to leave as well, she simply laughed: “No, at least not before I finish my medical training. I can't really make plans for the future at this point." Her hope for Sudan is simple: “For my Sudanese people, I hope for safety, peace, good eats, and a good life.
