Climate-Friendly Village and Self-Reliant Farmers

Climate change is hitting Nepal’s marginalized communities hardest especially smallholder farmers, persons with disabilities, women-headed households, single women, and landless communities. To strengthen their resilience, the "Strengthening Capacity of Smallholder Farmers for Resilient Livelihoods (SAKSHAM)" project was launched for the period 2022–2025, supported by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland through Felm Nepal and implemented by LI-BIRD in Krishnapur Municipality and Laljhadi Rural Municipality of Kanchanpur District and Jorayal Rural Municipality of Doti District. The project promoted climate-smart agriculture and disaster-risk reduction practices and technologies to improve food security, nutrition, income, and climate resilience of the target beneficiaries in Pattada village, located in Jorayal-2 of Doti, has recently begun to gain recognition as a climate-smart village. Dil Bahadur BK, a resident of this village, was previously dependent on traditional farming, which could sustain his family for only four months. This 2-minute video documentary " Climate-Friendly Village and Self-Reliant Farmers" highlights the results of adoption of climate smart technologies which had promoted through establishment of climate smart village approach. This approach helps him adapt to and mitigate the effects of changing climates, while improving their own household food, income and nutrition security, and protecting the environment. For years, Dil Bahadur BK who is one of the target beneficiaries among the beneficiaries of climate smart village survived on limited crops and seasonal migration to India. Today, his livelihood has changed dramatically.
