Lives Transformed by Climate-Resilient Technologies
To enhance income, food and nutrition security, and the resilience of marginalized farmers and freed labor communities, the Strengthening Capacity of Smallholder Farmers for Resilient Livelihoods (SAKSHAM) project has been implemented from 2022 to 2025. The project promotes the establishment of Climate Smart Villages and is funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland through Felm Nepal, and implemented by LI-BIRD in Krishnapur Municipality and Laljhadi Rural Municipality of Kanchanpur District, as well as Jorayal Rural Municipality of Doti District. As part of this initiative, the project has created opportunities for poor and landless farmers to access land.
The two-and-a-half-minute documentary video, “Lives Transformed by Climate-Resilient Technologies,” highlights the project’s contributions to strengthening food, income, and nutrition security through the establishment of a Climate Smart Village in Ward No. 5 of Krishnapur Municipality, Kanchanpur. This initiative, implemented in partnership with local and provincial governments, has significantly improved the livelihoods of participating households through the adoption of climate-smart technologies and practices.
Among the beneficiaries is Ms. Laxmidevi Chaudhary, a resident of Mohana Shibir in Ward No. 5 of Krishnapur Municipality. She has adopted improved agricultural practices including composting, organic pest management, plastic tunnel farming, drip irrigation, and the use of a solar pump. As a result, her income and food security have improved significantly.
