The Syali Riverbed: A New Foundation for Prosperity
To enhance income, food security, and employment opportunities for poor and landless women farmers by increasing their access to land, the Strengthening Capacity of Smallholder Farmers for Resilient Livelihoods (SAKSHAM) project has been implemented for the period 2022–2025. The project is funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland through Felm Nepal and implemented by LI-BIRD in Krishnapur Municipality and Laljhadi Rural Municipality of Kanchanpur District, as well as Jorayal Rural Municipality of Doti District. Through this initiative, land access opportunities have been created for poor and landless households.
The two-and-a-half-minute documentary video, “The Syali Riverbed: A New Foundation for Prosperity,” highlights the project’s contributions to strengthening food and income security through riverbed farming in Ward No. 4 of Laljhadi Rural Municipality, Kanchanpur. This initiative has significantly improved the livelihoods of participating households. The Syali River—long a symbol of hope for many—now offers its riverbed as a platform where marginalized communities are beginning to cultivate their aspirations. Among these beneficiaries is Mr. Jamdar Rana, a resident of Sikalpatti, Ward No. 4, Laljhadi Rural Municipality, Kanchanpur.
