Landless Women Moving Towards Self-Reliance Earning Income by Growing Vegetables on Leased Land
To enhance income, food security, and employment opportunities for poor and landless women farmers by increasing their access to land, the Strengthening Capacity of Smallholder Farmers for Resilient Livelihoods (SAKSHAM) project was implemented for the period 2022–2025. The project is funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland through Felm Nepal and implemented by LI-BIRD in Krishnapur Municipality and Laljhadi Rural Municipality of Kanchanpur District, as well as Jorayal Rural Municipality of Doti District. Through this initiative, opportunities for land access have been extended to poor and landless farming households.
The two-and-a-half-minute documentary video, “Landless Women Moving Towards Self-Reliance: Earning Income by Growing Vegetables on Leased Land,” highlights the project’s contributions to improving food and income security through collective farming on leased land in Ward No. 5 of Krishnapur Municipality, Kanchanpur. This approach was introduced in partnership with the Agriculture Knowledge Center and Krishnapur Municipality. The initiative has significantly enhanced the livelihoods of participating women. They are now able to manage household expenses more easily, including their children's school fees, without relying on loans. Their earnings allow them to purchase clothing for their children and cover daily essentials such as salt and cooking oil. The women report feeling empowered and capable of independently managing their farming and household activities.
