Azerbaijan commemorates the first anniversary of Prove It Matters
As we mark one year of the #ProveItMatters campaign and 30 years of the Children and Armed Conflict mandate, we thank Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 for its message reaffirming the importance of upholding the Convention on the Rights of the Child, especially for children living in areas affected by armed conflict and explosive hazards.
In its video statement, Azerbaijan highlights the devastating impact of landmines and unexploded ordnance on children’s lives. Long after active hostilities have ceased, these hidden dangers continue to kill and maim, restrict freedom of movement, prevent access to education, and hinder safe returns and reconstruction. For children, the presence of landmines is not only a physical threat , it is a barrier to their rights to safety, development, and a future free from fear.
Today, as we reflect, we are reminded that protecting children requires sustained commitment, including addressing the long-term humanitarian consequences of war such as landmines.
One year on, #ProveItMatters reinforces a simple but urgent message: children’s rights under the Convention on the Rights of the Child must be upheld in practice, in every village, every school, and every community affected by conflict.
We appreciate Azerbaijan’s engagement and its emphasis on ensuring that children can grow up in safety and dignity.
Together, we must continue to prove that children’s rights matter, everywhere, and at all times.
