Technology for integrity and environmental protection (Environment Day 1 | CoSP11)

Natural resources are a critical backbone of economies, providing livelihoods, jobs and vital revenues for education, healthcare and sustainable development. As these resources become increasingly scarce, they can also become the target of criminal activities including organized cross-border crime. These crimes also contribute to the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution – the defining environmental challenges of our time. We need innovative approaches to tackle these crimes. While there are already digital tools for tackling corruption and crimes that affect the environment, these tools are not yet very well known to a larger community. This special event took place at the 11th Conference of the States Parties to the UN Convention Against Corruption in Doha, Qatar. It was part of Environment Day – a special theme day co-organised by a coalition of government, inter-governmental and civil society partners. This session was co-organised by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, German Environment Agency, INTERPOL and UNODC.
