From Migration to Entrepreneurship: Suldan’s Story
Suldan Ahmed left Somalia in search of a better future, traveling across seas and through dangerous migration routes from Bosaso to Yemen, Sudan, and eventually Libya.
After spending five difficult years stranded in Libya and facing harsh conditions in smuggler shelters, Suldan made the decision to return home to Somalia through IOM’s Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration programme.
With support from the European Union, Suldan received financial assistance to start over. Today, he works as a taxi driver in Bosaso, using his income to rebuild his life with dignity and hope for the future.
In 2025, IOM assisted more than 900 Somali migrants to voluntarily and safely return home, helping many restart their lives through reintegration support.
