When Care Arrives at the Doorstep: Chanda Maiya’s Story

When Care Arrives at the Doorstep: Chanda Maiya’s Story

Mother’s Day may have passed, but the love, gratitude and care we feel for our mothers shouldn't be limited to just one day. As many of us celebrate the women who raised us, it is also worth sparing a thought for the countless elderly mothers and grandmothers who spend their days in silence, loneliness and neglect. Chanda Maiya is one of them. At 70, she lives alone despite having three sons. Confined to her bed by diabetes, hypertension and arthritis, she waits for the familiar knock on the door — a visit from our Mobile Healthcare Unit (MHU) team that brings not just medicines, but also care, comfort and connection. After a lifetime of putting everyone else first, many older women are left to navigate illness and ageing on their own. And when it comes to healthcare and emotional support, elderly women are often the most overlooked. Our MHUs are helping reach mothers and grandmothers like Chanda Maiya with dignity, compassion and hope. Join us in turning love into action.
