Climate Resilient Ageing - Ensuring Care, Dignity & Agency

Climate change, manifested through extreme events such as floods, droughts, heatwaves, cyclones, and landslides, disproportionately affect elderly in rural areas. These events disrupt livelihood, health, and socio-economic security. Marginalized elderly face heightened vulnerability, yet are often deprioritized in disaster recovery and rehabilitation efforts. On World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2026, we hope to highlight these challenges by capturing the lived experiences of rural elders and examining their coping mechanisms and community responses. Stay tuned for our forthcoming national report which provides actionable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and communities to better protect and empower older adults facing climate risks.
