The Conference on Humanitarian Action, Remedy and Responsibility in unilateral sanctions environment, co-organised by the Special Rapporteur on unilateral coercive measures and human rights, the Independent Expert on the Effects of Foreign Debt and the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations, was held at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva, on 9 and 10 April 2026. The event brought together various stakeholders, including States, civil society and humanitarian actors, academics and legal professionals to exchange about the humanitarian response in the face of unilateral sanctions, over-compliance, implementation of sanctions of the UN Security Council, as well as principles and possible mechanisms to ensure the right to effective remedy and responsibility of different types of actors.
