USAID Uganda Sanitation for Health Activity (USHA): WASH in Schools

Tetra Tech was the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) implementing partner for the USAID Uganda Sanitation for Health Activity (USHA), a 66-month, $32 million project that sought to increase access to improved and sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services to enhance health and nutrition status in three regions of Uganda. USHA aimed to increase household access to WASH services, ensure that key hygiene behaviors were adopted at home, school, and health facilities, and strengthen district governance for sustainable services in 20 districts across Uganda. To address WASH needs at schools and primary health facilities, the USHA team worked with teachers, parents, and student leaders and supported health facility hygiene audits and action planning in all intervention districts.
