"I made a promise" - Woubit's journey from grief to midwifery
When Woubit was a little girl, her mother went into labour carrying twins. Nobody knew until it was time to deliver. It was a breech. The nurse present could only save one.
The second baby did not survive.
That loss, witnessed as a child, became the reason Woubit dedicated her life to midwifery. She started with a diploma, building her skills and serving the women in her community. Now, supported by UNFPA Ethiopia, she is pursuing her degree at Ledeg Medical College, going further so she can do more.
In this interview, Woubit shares the moment that shaped her, what drives her every day, and what she hopes for the women she will one day serve.

WHY MIDWIVES MATTER
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Skilled midwives can prevent up to 70% of maternal and newborn deaths. Yet millions of women in Ethiopia still give birth without trained care. Woubit's story is a window into why that must change — and what it looks like when one person decides to be part of the solution.
