Strengthening EU economic security | RFP (REX/614) Milena ANGELOVA

At its June 2026 plenary session, the European Economic and Social Committee discussed how the EU can strengthen its economic security in a context of growing geopolitical tensions, economic coercion, supply-chain disruptions and pressure on the rules-based international order. In this Reporting from Plenary video, rapporteur Milena Angelova presents the EESC opinion on economic security, focusing on the EU’s preparedness, resilience and capacity to respond to risks and disruptions affecting the economy, people and society. The opinion underlines the need for coordinated action across EU policy areas, stronger competitiveness and innovation, secure access to key inputs, sustainable value chains, and open, rules-based international partnerships. It also stresses the importance of involving social partners, civil society and academia to ensure democratic legitimacy and practical effectiveness.
