India Circularity Summit 2022 – Day 1: Keynote – Unveiling the Idea of a Circular Economy
At the opening plenary of the #IndiaCircularitySummit last week, Wilma Rodrigues provided a birds eye view of what needs to be done to transition to a #CircularEconomy. Key takeaways:
1. Corporate sector focus on #NetZero is necessary but not enough. #GDP needs to be repurposed to embrace repair, reduce, reuse, refill, lend, borrow and swap.
2. #ESG has taken a strong hold but requires greater sincerity of intent.
3. #PlasticRecycling infrastructure is meagre and significant investments need to be made. 94% of plastic waste is converted into energy instead of reuse.
4. We cannot ignore the fact that 95% of the waste business belongs to the informal sector. #SocialJustice must prevail.
5. Why is it that not enough #information is being provided to the consumer? Allow consumers to make a choice. They have to pay because that’s the only way consumption will reduce.
