PassBlue reviewed a video from the incident, livestreamed on the UN WebTV, showing a man in a blue suit walking backward with his videocamera held in a way to capture the Trumps’ entry into the UN and on the escalator. According to an escalator mechanic, the videographer most likely tripped on the elevator’s comb plate, the metallic, comb-like part of an escalator that prevents shoes, clothing, and other items from getting caught in the small gap, automatically shutting the moving stairway down.
