Discover how Albania’s lakeside city of Shkodra is being transformed into a modern, vibrant cultural destination. The city’s new Museum of Navigation, currently under construction on the shores of Lake Shkodra, has been designed as a striking blend of architecture, history and landscape. Once completed, it will showcase the region’s rich maritime heritage while reshaping Shkodra’s waterfront.
In addition to the museum, the city is also upgrading its roads and cycling lanes around the lake to make it easier for tourists to explore the region.
This project is part of a wider €100 million programme financed by the EBRD and the European Union that aims to boost the competitiveness of Albania’s tourism sector. The funds are being used to co-finance tourism-enabling infrastructure upgrades, such as improvements to roads, water and wastewater facilities, and other municipal infrastructure, with a particular focus on the municipalities of Berat, Korca, Fier and Shkodra – all of which have distinctive tourism industries.
