Where the Mountains Weave: The Journey of Nepali Cashmere
High in Nepal’s trans-Himalayan regions, Chyangra goats produce one of the finest natural fibres in the world: cashmere. This short documentary follows the journey of that fibre — from the mountains to the final product — through a fully Nepali value chain. Along the way, we meet the herders, learn about humane fibre collection, explore traditional spinning and dyeing techniques, and see how new connections between farmers, processors, and producers are creating lasting impact across the country.
With support from the European Union and the United Kingdom government, the International Trade Centre (ITC) is working with Nepal’s pashmina community to strengthen and localize the entire supply chain — ensuring quality, sustainability, and fairer opportunities for the people who make it possible. Through training in humane fibre collection, connecting farmers to manufacturers and brands, and guiding the development of a truly Nepali supply chain, the EU-Nepal Trade and Investment Programme (EU-TIP) and the United Kingdom Trade Partnerships Programme (UKTP) are creating lasting impact.
