Legal Empowerment in Action: My Journey from a Client to a Paralegal

Mohammad Irfan was born and raised in Kurmitola Camp, a crowded and poverty-stricken community for members of Bangladesh's Urdu-speaking population. In 2017, his father applied for a passport so he could travel outside of the country. However, when Irfan went to pick up his father's passport, he was told he could not receive one because of his father's camp address. With the support of Namati and partner community paralegals, Irfan's father finally obtained his passport to travel to India. Irfan was inspired by the experience, and now works as a community paralegal for the Council of Minorities. He hopes to help everyone living in Kurmitola Camp and the other camps in the area to receive their civil documents such as birth certificates and passports.
