Navigating a Shifting Climate Landscape: The LGMA Constituency at the Bonn Climate Talks
The second all-Constituency briefing of 2026 brought together members and partners to prepare for the Bonn Climate Talks (SB64) and the road to COP31.
The session covered COP31's emerging electrification agenda as a central negotiation priority, alongside reflections from the Santa Marta conference and its implications for fossil fuel phase-out advocacy at the UNFCCC. A standout finding: 80% of NDC 3.0 submissions now include well-developed urban content, up from 49% in NDC 2.0. The briefing then turned to LGMA's three core advocacy priorities — climate finance delivery mechanisms, engagement with the newly established Just Transition Mechanism, and proposals for structured multilevel governance dialogue at the UNFCCC — before closing with updates on LGMA's working groups and opportunities to engage at SB64.
The briefing featured contributions from Aaron Kirby (Australia), Neil Khor (COP31 Climate High-Level Champion Office), Yunus Arikan (ICLEI), Toby Walker (Under2 Coalition), Lea Ranalder (UN-Habitat), Carlos de Freitas (FMDV), Marta Stencel (C40 Cities), and Amelia Dearman (Global Covenant of Mayors), and was facilitated by Ariel Dekovic (ICLEI).
