JOINT EFFORT GROUP
RICE West Nile, supported by the International Labor Organization (ILO), implemented the Integrated-UPSHIFT (I-UPSHIFT) project in Imvepi Refugee Settlement and the host community. The i-UPSHIFT Program is a youth social innovation and social entrepreneurship Programme, designed to build skills and opportunities for young people who are disadvantaged due to poverty, gender, disability, and ethnicity among others. The main objective of this program was to empower marginalized young people to identify and design entrepreneurial solutions to challenges/problems in their communities as well as create employment opportunities for themselves and other young people in their communities.
RICE West Nile conducted a final meetup event (pitching competitions) for 36 youth groups that received 100 USD as seed fund in the first pitching event to select 10 winning innovations. The top 10 outstanding innovations were awarded USD 5000 each to further develop their projects, creating more opportunities for young people in the area.
