Every newborn deserves a fighting chance
Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) is a simple, low-cost, high-impact intervention that significantly improves survival for premature and low birth weight babies through skin-to-skin contact, exclusive breastfeeding support, and close monitoring.
In Somalia, where complications related to prematurity remain a leading cause of newborn deaths, expanding access to quality newborn care is critical.
With support from Vanguard Charitable, Ministry of Health working with UNICEF has helped establish and equip Kangaroo Mother Care centres in Banadir, Dollow, Dhusamareb and Borama, while training more than 250 healthcare workers to strengthen newborn care services nationwide.
