Indonesia: National Dissemination of Blood Lead Surveillance (BLS) Pilot Results
The implementation of the first phase of blood lead surveillance (BLS) pilot in Indonesia, as part of the Strengthening Health Systems to Reduce Lead Exposure project—supported by Takeda Pharmaceuticals, ltd.—has been successfully completed.
Built on strong cross-sector collaboration, the field implementation of the surveillance took place from May to November 2025 across 12 selected locations. The findings were formally presented at the National Dissemination Event for Blood Lead Level Surveillance Results. The event featured a keynote address from the Director of Environmental Health at the Ministry of Health. Pure Earth, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), and Vital Strategies presented the BLS results and policy recommendations to the Ministry of Health and representatives from cross-sectoral ministries and institutions, academia, and professional organizations.
The event also served as an appreciation ceremony for the field teams whose dedication and hard work made the implementation of the blood lead surveillance possible.
