The Republic of Korea has built up a robust defence-industrial base, with the ability to produce weapons at speed and scale, and at competitive prices, allowing it to help other nations around the world to fill key security gaps, explains IISS Korea Chair in Advanced Technologies, National Security and Defence, Dr Lami Kim.
In his remarks to the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, Minister of National Defense Ahn Gyu-bak laid out his country’s defence priorities going forward, including enhancing its own conventional deterrence capabilities, building new defence partnerships, and assisting recipient countries of its defence systems to strengthen their own defence-industrial capabilities, as well as nurturing peace on the Peninsula.
