The 2025 National Security Strategy reaffirmed the US commitment to a ‘free and open Indo-Pacific’, including through a focus on ‘peace through strength’, while the 2026 National Defense Strategy outlined its vision for a ‘decent peace’ in the Indo-Pacific. In this opening plenary, the US administration outlined its approach to achieving this goal in the region amid strategic competition, ongoing regional conflicts and renewed efforts to defend the homeland in the Western hemisphere.
