Women shaping climate adaptation in Narayanganj

Climate change impacts everyone, but women living in informal settlements often face the greatest challenges. In Narayanganj City Corporation, the Women’s Adaptation Labs (WALs) are creating spaces where women can share their experiences, identify climate risks, and lead solutions for their own communities. Through participatory mapping, discussions, and community-led data collection, women from Bihari Camp, Rishi Para, Guhobari, and South Rally Line came together to address challenges such as waterlogging, extreme heat, water scarcity, and poor sanitation. The WAL approach places women’s lived experiences, knowledge, and leadership at the centre of climate adaptation planning, helping shape solutions that are practical, inclusive, and grounded in local realities. Developed by Design for Change Ltd. and facilitated by Practical Action in Bangladesh with support from the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) and Global Affairs Canada, the initiative highlights how women-led adaptation can help build more resilient and inclusive cities.
