Rural women and the internet: turning connectivity into opportunity

In rural Nepal, women farmers are embracing digital finance to transform their lives. With new skills and confidence, they are managing household finances, making informed decisions, and stepping into entrepreneurship. As their journey unfolded, they voiced a powerful demand—better internet access. This call led to affordable connectivity for households in remote villages. Engaging communities in cost-sharing basis, and partnering with local internet service providers, Practical Action has helped improve access to reliable internet in rural areas. By August 2025, around 2,700 households have been covered with internet connection at a subsidized rate. This has strengthened the digital financial ecosystem, showing that reliable connectivity is not just a service but a foundation for digital financial literacy, trust, and access to digital finance.
