Leor Zmigrod - The Ideological Brain: The Radical Science of Flexible Thinking
At just 29 years of age, Leor Zmigrod is considered the founder of a new field of science: political neurobiology. In this field, she researches the connection between political attitudes and the biology of our brains. She shows that our beliefs do not exist as fleeting thoughts detached from our bodies. Rather, ideologies change our brains. At the same time, a certain neurobiological predisposition makes us receptive to certain beliefs. This is why, for example, she is able to draw frighteningly accurate conclusions about her subjects' worldviews using a simple card-sorting experiment. In numerous other experiments, she proves the connection between extreme political positions and our brains, revolutionizing our ideas about radicalization, extremism, and democratic opinion-forming.
