Regional Training Workshop on Enabling Urban Action - Day 2

Regional Training Workshop on Enabling Urban Action: Advancing Urban Heat Resilience in Asia-Pacific 8–9 April 2026 | Bangkok, Thailand (Hybrid) Extreme heat is one of the fastest-growing climate risks facing cities across the Asia-Pacific region. Rising temperatures, rapid urbanization, and more frequent heatwaves are placing increasing pressure on public health systems, infrastructure, and economic productivity, particularly for vulnerable populations. This regional training workshop, convened by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), brought together city representatives, technical experts, and development partners to strengthen practical approaches to urban heat resilience. The workshop focused on: • Urban heat risk assessment and data-driven decision-making • Monitoring systems and heat early warning approaches • Inclusive and coordinated heat response strategies • Structural and nature-based cooling solutions • Advancing the development and implementation of Urban Heat Action Plans The event was organized under ESCAP’s project “Enabling Urban Action to Enhance Climate Resilience in Asia,” supported by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) through the Climate Action for a Resilient Asia (CARA) initiative. By fostering peer learning and technical exchange, the workshop supports cities across South and South-East Asia in strengthening their capacity to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to extreme heat.
