Piles of debris still litter communities in western Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa's landfall, creating eyesores and health hazards. Meanwhile, many persons are still out of work after the hurricane destroyed their livelihoods. UNDP has connected both challenges into a single solution. With neighbours in need at the centre of operations, UNDP is supporting debris cleans ups under its Cash for Work Emergency Employment programme to support needy residents with immediate financing needs. Follow the journey of two participants, Ann Maria and Steve, who lost their sources of income. Watch as they share their personal challenges, hopes and dreams for making their communities safe and beautiful again. From the hills of Sawyers, Trelawny to the plains of Petersfield, Westmoreland, UNDP takes you on a journey of hope and inspiration, starting with this Part one.
Next up, Steve and Ann Maria's continuing journey at debris clean up days and finally, after the dust settles.
