Hurricane Melissa Debris is choking thoroughfares and presenting hidden hazards and eyesores in parts of western Jamaica. Supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the CARICOM Development Fund, eight communities are on target to clear their debris under UNDP's signature cash for work programme. Together, neighbours will remove the last remnants of Melissa, and a few communities will opt into a new recycling programme to convert hurricane Melissa trash into treasured keepsakes. This is the story of two communities embarking on their debris clean up and recycling journey.
