RUN FOR FAIR P(L)AY - Aftermovie Banana Run 2026
The Banana Run was an initiative from Fairtrade Belgium combining sport, visibility and advocacy.
During the Bashir’s Run half marathon in Gentbrugge, on March 8th 2026, dozens of runners took part dressed in Fairtrade banana costumes, aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest half marathon run in a piece of fruit.
Beyond the playful stunt, the Banana Run carried a strong message: raising awareness about unfair wages and working conditions in the banana sector, and putting banana farmers and workers at the centre of the story. By mixing high-level sport, influencers, media attention and a clear societal message, the Banana Run gave Fairtrade bananas unprecedented visibility.
