Adaptation is needed to avoid a future corn crisis
Description: “In 10 to 20 years, if we continue to grow this corn, genetically, it’s going to look like [a stunted and unhealthy ear of corn],” says Sharon E. Burke, chief engagement officer at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT). “So the innovation that we have to do is figure out how to make it look like [a healthy ear of corn] in the conditions that we’re going to be in. So it’s sort of anticipatory adaptation.”
