Western democracies rank lowest in trust while autocracies rank highest, poll finds
“If you follow trust from like East to West, you can march right down and look at emerging economies that are either autocracies or nonelected officials all the way through Western democracy, and Western democracy is at the bottom of trust,” says Aaron Guiterman, chair of U.S. government and public affairs at Edelman, while discussing the results of the 2026 Edelman Trust Barometer.
