#CMMSpotlight | A #methane plume detected over the Moatize coal mine in #Mozambique on 25 October 2025 emitted around 2,300 kilograms of methane per hour 🇲🇿 🛰️ That is the climate equivalent of roughly 18,000 cars driving on the road simultaneously for one straight hour 🚙💨 The plume was identified in the same mining area examined by a recent Disclose and Socialter investigation into coal shipments supplying ArcelorMittal’s Dunkirk steel plant in France. As steelmakers explore lower-emission production pathways, addressing methane emissions linked to coal supply chains could represent an important opportunity to reduce the sector’s overall climate footprint.
