Equal access to learning for all
In Togo, having a disability is often seen as a curse, making it hard to go to school explains Lidia who has lost the two soles of her feet. But Plan International's inclusive education programme is helping to break down these barriers by raising awareness to change people's attitudes and training teachers on how to ensure children with disabilities feel more confident in the classroom.
"I was made to feel different because of my disability, just because I walk differently. Even some members of my family rejected me. In my community, going to school is a challenge for those with disabilities. Some children are hidden away at home by their parents and are not allowed to go to school at all. But everyone deserves to learn."
