TRAJECTS Global Academy 2025

TRAJECTS Global Academy 2025

The 2nd TRAJECTS (Transnational Centre for Just Transitions in Energy, Climate, and Sustainability) Global Academy, 'Re-imagining Climate Change Technocratic Responses: Pathways Towards Regenerative Futures,' took place in Cape Town from 6th to 10th October 2025. This five-day (un)learning journey brought together postgraduate students, practitioners, activists, healers, and academics from Africa, Colombia, and Germany for an exchange of knowledge and ideas that goes beyond dominant technocratic responses to climate change. Mainstream narratives on reducing fossil fuel dependency tend to centre on technological solutions for lowering carbon dioxide emissions. While well-intentioned, these strategies often fail to address the deeper structural systemic drivers of climate breakdown, as they remain embedded within a dominant world order that upholds human mastery over nature and prioritises profit-making. The 2025 TRAJECTS Academy is rooted in land-memory relational, localised, bioregional, and participatory approaches - foregrounding regenerative, life-affirming pathways that honour ecological and cultural pluralism. The key approach of Global Academy focused on student-centred research involving the TRAJECTS scholarship holders from Colombia and South Africa, as well as our partner network. The approach aims to convey a sense of fluidity, flow, and movement in the processes of un (learning), sharing, and exchange. Diverse modes of engagement will be explored, including intercultural approaches and exchanges, workshops, short film screenings, discussion circles, movement, art, embodied methods, shifting narratives, storytelling, and empathetic listening.
