Managing Menstruation With Dignity in Gaza

Girls face challenges managing menstrual hygiene safely and with dignity in the Gaza Strip, where the destruction of infrastructure has left 1.8 million people in need of some form of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) humanitarian assistance. UNICEF conducted information sessions to give girls a safe space to share their concerns around menstrual hygiene, and to work together to create educational animated videos by girls, for girls. "This activity helped me learn how to manage myself in critical situations of my personal hygiene, how to deal with my period," says Marah, 17. "I love this project," adds 14-year-old Lama. "It helped me learn, it meets my needs as a girl. In the animation project, I create a story and color the character I want. This project has given me hope for the future."
