UNICEF Supports Safe Water Access in Gaza
Throughout the Gaza Strip, the destruction of homes and infrastructure left many families without reliable access to safe, clean water. Desalination plants supported by UNICEF are providing children and their families with a life-sustaining water source.
The plants pump water from the Mediterranean Sea, then process and desalinate it to produce safe drinking water.
"I have to travel from a distant area to collect water from this location," says 14-year-old Hisham, filling a large storage container with water. "We rely on this seawater desalination plant to fill our containers. We use the water it provides for drinking and for our daily household needs."
"The water produced by the desalination plant is very good, almost like the bottled water we used to buy before," adds a mother named Marah. "We use if for bathing, cooking and washing, and it has made our daily lives much easier."
