The Race to Stop Ebola

UNICEF communications coordinator John James reports from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where the country's 17th Ebola outbreak has spread to at least 22 health zones in three provinces.  UNICEF-supported community health workers will play a key role in stopping the chain of transmission, sharing messages about how to stay safe — washing hands, keeping distance — and making sure alerts reach the health system.  "That way, when someone dies with symptoms, immediate testing can be done, people are isolated, and contacts are traced," James says.  UNICEF's six-month response plan is based on building trust to stop transmission, breaking chains of infection, detecting community cases early, protecting children beyond Ebola and coordinating across borders and sectors.  Subscribe to UNICEF USA's YouTube Channel for the latest updates.
