The Tirek journey: Where data meets art to illuminate women’s realities across Central Asia

Art can move us in ways words can’t. Paired with data, it becomes a bridge — turning numbers into human stories that demand to be seen and heard. “Tirek: The Threads of Her Life” brings together 14 powerful data artworks by Central Asian artists, each rooted in real gender data and the everyday realities of women and girls: unpaid care, workplace bias, stereotypes, son preference, and the harsh truths of gender‑based violence. Through a partnership between UN Women’s “Making Every Woman and Girl Count” programme in Europe and Central Asia and the School of Data, Tirek transforms statistics into art — creating new pathways for empathy, conversation, and action on gender equality. #ArtKazan | #womencount 00:00 – Tirek journey 01:47 – QizUl: girl or boy 03:24 – Sitoraxo: women trailblazers of Uzbekistan 04:33 – Devalued 05:41 – Women-faced gurama 07:29 – Balance of colour 09:01 – Illusion of balance 10:11 – Mono 11:33 – Kattama 12:35 – The circle of Mother Umay 13:45 – Convexity 15:14 – Voices of silence 16:16 – Bitter truth 17:37 – Lukhtak.
