Anita is a community health worker at a Seva-sponsored Vision Center.
It's sunrise in Pune, India, and Anita Shevle is already setting change in motion. She gets her daughters ready for school, then steps into her job at the local Seva-supported Vision Center, where her community goes for trusted eye care. She screens patients, runs exams, and counsels families, proving the power of local leadership.
A Vision Center is more than a clinic – it's a permanent, community-led hub for eye health. It meets up to 80% of all eye care needs on-site, refers patients to nearby hospitals for advanced treatment, and opens career pathways for professionals like Anita, boosting local economies and creating stronger communities in the process.
Last year alone, 4.2 million people gained access to eye care through Vision Centers. As one patient told Anita, "Tumhare wajah se aankhon ki Roshni aayi" ("Because of you, I got my sight back.")
