Following the devastating Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) on 16 August 2024 which severely impacted Thame village within the Sagarmatha National Park, a World Heritage Site, this documentary captures the incredible resilience of the local community as they rebuild their lives and safeguard their cultural heritage.
Supported by the Heritage Emergency Fund (HEF) and led by UNESCO, the project worked closely with local youth, women's groups, and community leaders. As a result, this community-led initiative successfully documented ten vital intangible cultural heritage elements of the Sherpa community in the Everest region. It also established a concrete action plan to finalize foundational inventory documentation for heritage preservation.
By centering entirely on community empowerment, this project ensures that the traditions and knowledge of the local people remain a powerful shield against climate challenges for generations to come.
